A Special Birthday Present

Myself and two associates, Bob and Debbie, made a trip to Chicago from Ohio to make a presentation to one of our major accounts. The presentation went well and was completed in a timely manner. Bob suggested that we leave right away to airport to catch the earlier flight home, but I insisted that we take our time and go to a special restaurant that I had picked out since it was Debbie's birthday. Bob thougt it over and decided that it was a good idea.

We went to the restaurant and had a great dinner. Neither of them had been to this establishment and they were very impressed with the quantity and quality of the food.

Now a cab ride ride to the airport, the security  procedure and a walk to the Red Carpet Room to check in for our flight home.

I had just hung up the phone with my wife when Debbie came over to me a told me to look at the TV over the bar.She looked troubled.  I walked over to the bar and looked up at the screen and saw a lot of flames and smoke. I asked the bar tender what was going on and he told me that the flight that had left earlier for Ohio had just crashed in a field in Pennsylvania and there were no survivors.

Yes, that was the flight that the three of us would have been on if we hadn't taken the time to celebrate Debby's birthday.

When we arrived at the airport in Ohio the three women from the traffic department were there to great us with tears in their eyes because they did not know if we had taken the earlier flight.

Sometimes it's better to take a breath and slow down. It could save your life!
